WHEN PARAGUAY BECAME HOME TO ME.

  • MY MOVE TO PARAGUAY IN THE 80’S, ALLOWED ME TO EXPERIENCE LIFE FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE.

  • CHRISTMAS CHANGED FROM COLD AND COZY TO HOT AND SWEATY.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA DIDN’T EXIST, SO OLD FRIENDSHIPS WERE LOST, AND NEW FRIENDSHIPS ESTABLISHED.

  • BIKES BECAME THE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION TO HANGING OUT WITH FRIENDS, FIELD TRIPS, AND ERRANDS TO THE STORE.

  • IT FELT LIKE LIVING IN THE LAND OF LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, JUST A LITTLE DUSTIER.

  • SPANISH BECAME THE FOURTH LANGUAGE OF COMMUNICATION FOR ME.

  • VALUABLE LIFE LESSONS WERE LEARNED IN THIS REMOTE PLACE AND COMMUNITY.

  • THE BEGINNINGS OF MY PASSION OF CROSS-CULTURAL RELATIONSHIPS BEGAN IN THE WILDERNESS OF THE CHACO.

I'M ROSWITA.

Most would describe me as a unique individual who was raised by Mennonites and speaks multiple languages.

Until we moved to Paraguay, I was clueless about what it meant to be Mennonite. Living in a Mennonite colony in the Chaco during my youth gave me experiences and learning opportunities that I have never regretted.

Later, Gene and I lived in Russia as a young married couple. While learning the language and culture, I recognized cultural nuances that were very familiar to me. It felt like I had just gone full circle with my heritage.

Join me in 2025 as I take you back to my Paraguayan Slavic Mennonite roots and give you a taste of an amazing heritage.
